We have seen record rainfalls and extreme periods of heat over the past couple months. Main issues we are seeing is areas stressed from heat, particularly in clay soils where the roots get very hot or don’t drain well. Weed pressure is extremely high this year too, with the heavy rainfalls, pre-emergent protection is getting flushed from the soil as well. Spot spraying those areas with is best to limit the amount of herbicide applied to already stressed turf is best. Watering you lawn a couple times each week (in the morning preferably) will go a long way to helping maintain your lawns root system.
Japanese beetles have made their presence known now as well. We have seen them in increasing numbers the past couple years, but please remember not to spray any plants in bloom to protect from harming any bees.
Keep the irrigation running and we are 45 days away from better grass growing weather.
